# Sync

> How Sonto keeps your devices in step through iCloud

Sonto syncs your data across all your devices using **iCloud**. There's no Sonto account to create and
no email to hand over — if you're signed in to iCloud, sync just works.

## How it works

* Your areas, projects, tasks, tags, and planning sync between every device signed in to the **same
  Apple Account**.
* Sync is **end-to-end encrypted** through iCloud — not even the developer can read your data. See
  [Privacy & Data](/reference/privacy-and-data).
* Changes propagate quickly; the first sync on a new device can take a few minutes as it pulls
  everything down.

## Setting up

There's nothing to switch on inside Sonto. Just make sure that, on every device you want to sync:

1. You're **signed in to iCloud** with the same Apple Account.
2. **Sonto is allowed to use iCloud** (Settings → your name → iCloud → Apps using iCloud).
3. You have a little **free iCloud storage** available.

You can check the current sync status any time in **Settings → General**.

<Info>
  App settings and calendar connections are specific to each device and don't sync — only your Sonto
  data does.
</Info>

## Availability

Sync works across any number of **Mac** and **iPhone** devices on the same Apple Account.
