This page is a map of what you can adjust in Sonto. Settings are specific to each device — they don’t sync, so a change you make on your Mac won’t follow you to your iPhone.

Where it lives

  • Mac — open the Sonto menu and choose Settings…, or press Cmd + ,. Settings open in their own window, with a sidebar listing the panes below and back and forward buttons for the pages that nest inside them.
  • iPhone & iPad — tap the settings entry, and pick a section from the list. The sections are the same, minus AI, and About is called Help.

General

Sonto’s overall look and feel.
  • Appearance — light, dark, or follow your system setting.
  • Text size — make everything in Sonto smaller or larger, independently of your system setting. See Text size.
  • App icon — choose an alternative icon for your dock or Home Screen.
  • Sidebar badges — whether the sidebar counts your Inbox, Today, both, or neither.
  • Sound effects — the small sounds Sonto plays when you complete a task.
  • Sync status — whether iCloud sync is healthy, in progress, or stalled. See Sync. On iPhone this sits at the top of the settings list rather than inside General.
Mac adds one more: Dock icon when Sonto is running — always, only in dark mode, or never.

Tasks

How tasks behave as you work through them.
  • Enable natural language dates — whether Sonto reads dates, times, projects and tags out of a task’s name as you type. See Natural language input.
  • Move overdue tasks to… — where a task goes when its day passes: Today, This week, or nowhere. See Overdue tasks.
  • Automatically clear completed… — after 30, 60 or 90 days, or never. You can set this separately for tasks in projects, tasks in areas, and other tasks.
  • Global hotkeys (Mac) — two system-wide hotkeys for adding a task to your inbox or to today, even when Sonto is in the background. See Quick capture.

Planning

The rhythm of your planning sessions. See Notifications & Reminders.
  • Daily planning reminders — when Sonto nudges you to plan, and on which days.
  • Also plan weekend days — whether Saturday and Sunday take part in daily planning.
  • Quarterly planning reminder — when to prompt you for the next quarter or year.
  • Offer to continue planning — whether Sonto suggests carrying on to the next step.
  • Copy tasks when dragging in planning — drag a task into a plan to copy it rather than move it.

Calendars

Connecting Sonto to the calendars on your device. See Calendar.
  • Calendar access — grant Sonto permission to read your calendars, and choose which ones to show.
  • Accounts — connect a Google account, or add others in your system settings.
  • Default calendar — where Sonto puts the events it creates.
  • Hide task names on calendar events — keep task names private on a shared calendar.

Scheduling

How Sonto places work on your calendar.
  • Working hours — the hours Sonto treats as available when it auto-schedules a task, including for repeating tasks.
  • Default event duration — the length of a time block Sonto creates.
  • First day of the week — which day your week screen starts on.
  • Calendar density — how tightly the calendar packs its hours.

Tags

Create, rename and delete your tags. Tags you remove here disappear from every task, project and area that carried them.

AI

  • AI Access — the main switch for the MCP server. When off, no AI tool can reach Sonto, and the sonto CLI stops working too.
  • Allow changes — off by default. Turn it on to let an AI tool create, edit and complete items.
  • Install Claude Desktop Connector — one-click setup for Claude Desktop.
  • Use the CLI or connect to other AI Agents — opens an Advanced page holding the Endpoint, Port, pairing code, connected clients, and the CLI Path with a Copy button.

About

Your version and build number, open-source licences, and the terms and privacy policy. On iPhone this section is called Help.
Backups, restore, import and delete live in the Backup & Import window rather than Settings. See Backup & Import.

Availability

Settings exist on both Mac and iPhone & iPad. Two things are Mac-only: global hotkeys, and the whole AI pane — the MCP server and the CLI run on the Mac. Backup & Import is on every platform; on Mac it lives outside Settings. Importing from Things is Mac-only, because Things for iOS has no export and its database is not readable by other apps.
